The IVET School is located on a compound some 4 km east of the town centre. The construction works of the school have been completed in April 2009 and delivery of equipment was in October 2009.

The trades / buildings / facilities foreseen for the operation of the school are:

  1. Agriculture: Crop Production and Animal Husbandry
  2. Construction: Building and Carpentry
  3. Mechanical: Small Engines and Electrical Repair
  4. Kitchen and Canteen Services
  5. Computer Training
  6. Administration Building, 2 Public Toilets, Internal Roads, Parking and Foot walks, 1 Soccer Field
  7. Vehicles for the Management of the School

In total 16 individual buildings have been erected on a compound of some 8.5 ha for a total cost of approx. EUR 1.040 mio with equipment estimated of EUR 0.271 mio.The IVET School is in operation since October 2009 on the new compound.

  

 

The province of Oudomxay

laos map oudomxayThe province is located in the northern part of Laos. Oudomxay, the mountainous province, wedged between Luang Prabang in the east, Phongsaly in the northeast, Sayabouri in the south and a little bit with China, Most of the province population of 283,000 is a mixture of 23 ethnic groups such as Hmong, Iko, Khamu, Lamet etc, each with it own distinct culture, religion, language and colorful style of dress. They are nonetheless and hospitable and welcome visitors to their singular cultures are mostly untouched by 20th century. The provincial capital, Muang Xay lies between two strings of Hmong villages. Oudomxay can be reached overland from Luang Prabang. Oudomxay is also accessible from Bokeo and Luang Namtha Provinces.

Near Muang Say a waterfall, Lak Sip-Et, attracts visitors, as do the hot springs near Muang La. Muang Say is connected by road to Pakbeng, a rustic town stretching along the Mekong. From there one can continue to Luang Prabang by boat, passing stone cliffs, undulating mountains and little fishing villages.

The famous Buddhist stupa in Oudomxay is called Saymoungkhoune Rattana Stupa. Oudomxay is an ideal base for excursions and trekking to varied sights and attractions as well as destination in its own right. Muang Xai, has one of the best produce markets in the area.
